From competition shows to iconic lyrics to sold out arenas for world tours.K-pop has become a phenomenon reaching people all over the world. People who may have not heard about K-pop may ask themselves “what is all the hype about”.

K-pop is starting to become a very popular music genre around the world. K-pop is short for Korean pop. K-pop is known for amazing choreography and very dedicated fandoms. Kpop groups often train for years before debuting to improve their singing,dancing and performance skills. Some groups are even formed through competition shows. Some artists start their career as young as the age of 14. This was the case for Enhypen’s Niki after it was announced that he would be one of the members of the group Enhypen on the Finale of the competition show ‘Iland where he and 23 other contestants competed by using using their dancing and singing skills for the ultimate prize: a contract with a record label and a spot in a group.

In the K-pop industry there are iconic acts and well known artists. Bts is one of them. Bts stands for (Bangtan Sonyeondon or Bulletproof Boy Scouts. They debuted in 2013. These seven guys have become one of the most iconic groups in Kpop. They have Won many Grammy awards and they have topped the Billboard Charts. They have also addressed the United Nations. Another group that is known in the industry is Enhypen. Since they were formed from a competition show they already had a dedicated fan base before they even officially debuted. They blend different types of music into their songs such as pop, hip-hop, and rock. The K-Pop industry also uses social media and reality TV to build a global following . Enhypen and Bts are examples of this.

Global Groups
One thing that may confuse fans or people that may not know a lot about Kpop is that this type of music is not just from South Korea. In February of 2021 HYBE and Geffen Records announced their joint venture. Both companies worked together to create a global girl group based in Los Angeles, California They did this through the Kpop training training and development system. They also developed a competition show which was used to determine the members. Through this show they created the Group Katseye.
K-pop is constantly evolving, with new groups and new music emerging all the time. Groups like Bts have paved the way for global recognition while Enhypen showcasing the innovative strategies used to launch new acts. K-Pop will continue to have an impact on the music industry in the years to come.
